Suriname's Next Decade of Progress
It is a privilege to present the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Suriname Business at a moment of clear optimism for our economy. Offshore energy projects are advancing toward development, public investment is upgrading roads, ports and power, and regional trade with CARICOM, the Guianas and Brazil is gathering pace. The engine behind this momentum is the ingenuity of Surinamese entrepreneurs and professionals who turn potential into performance.
This edition showcases companies that are building capacity, exporting with confidence and partnering for scale. To win in the year ahead, Suriname’s firms should focus on five disciplines: rigorous compliance and certification to meet international standards, joint-venture readiness and procurement capability for energy and infrastructure supply chains, digitized operations from sales to finance, continuous talent development with strong HSSE practices, and export readiness with disciplined cost control and reliable logistics. These capabilities convert opportunity into durable growth.

Building Suriname's Future Through Innovation and Entrepreneurship
When I accepted the responsibility to serve as Minister of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation, I did so with a clear purpose: to help chart a path for Suriname’s economic transformation that is both sustainable and inclusive. For me, this role is not just about managing policies or programs; it is about creating opportunities for every Surinamese citizen to contribute to, and benefit from, our country’s progress. I believe our greatest resource is not only the oil, gas, or gold beneath our soil, but economic diversification and the creativity and resilience of our people. This conviction drives my ministry’s focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, and the empowerment of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SMEs form the backbone of our economy, and when they thrive, our communities thrive. That is why I have made it a priority to strengthen access to financing, improve training and capacity building, and support businesses in embracing digital
transformation. Through initiatives and programs we are ensuring that local enterprises have the tools to grow, innovate, and create jobs.
Another area where I see enormous potential is our local content development. Suriname stands at a historic moment with the development of our oil and gas sector. For me, success in this sector is not measured only in barrels of oil, but in how much of the value chain stays in Suriname. My goal is to ensure that Surinamese companies, workers, and professionals are at the forefront of this transformation. By building strong partnerships between local suppliers and international firms, we can transfer knowledge, create jobs, and build capacity that lasts well beyond the oil era.
I also look further ahead. The world is changing rapidly, and Suriname must change with it. We cannot afford to remain mere consumers of technology; we must become creators of technology. That is why I am passionate about developing innovation hubs, promoting digital literacy, and creating an environment where young people can turn their ideas into viable businesses. I want to see Surinamese start-ups competing globally, exporting not only products but also knowledge and solutions.
International cooperation has been central to my approach. Over the past years, we have worked closely with organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Union, and global partners like the Tony Blair Institute. These collaborations give us access to resources, expertise, and networks that strengthen our local initiatives and open doors for our entrepreneurs to reach new markets.
At the heart of everything I do is a sense of service. I see my role not simply as a position in government, but as a responsibility to empower the next generation. My leadership philosophy is rooted in openness, collaboration, and results. I listen, I engage, and I push for action—because I believe Suriname cannot wait for change, we must create it ourselves.
As I look ahead, my message remains consistent: Suriname’s economic future will not be built by comfort zones, but by innovation, entrepreneurship, and courage. Together, we can shape a nation where progress is shared, opportunities are accessible, and every citizen can be proud of the role they play in building our tomorrow.

Suriname at the dawn of a New Economic Horizon
It is a distinct pleasure to introduce the 2026 edition of the Who's Who in Suriname Business Directory, a publication that captures the vibrant spirit of our nation's enterprise. This edition arrives at a pivotal moment—a true inflection point in our history. We are not merely on the cusp of growth; we are also architecting a new economic engine for the 21st century, one powered by innovation, sustainability, and the immense potential of our people.
The narrative of Suriname's economy is undergoing a fundamental shift. For decades, our prosperity has been linked to the rhythm of global commodity markets. Today, we have the historic opportunity to redefine this narrative. The revenues from our burgeoning oil and gas sector are not the final chapter of our story; they are the seed capital for a far more ambitious venture: the creation of a diversified, knowledge-driven, and resilient economy.
We are moving beyond simply extracting value from our natural resources. Instead, we are focused on creating value through ingenuity in a Suriname 3.0, a Suriname where we have maintained our 93% forest cover, a global treasure, not just as a carbon sink, but as a living laboratory for advancements in carbon finance, biotechnology, and world-class ecotourism. A Suriname 3.0 where our agricultural sector has transformed through agritech to sustainably feed the region, and our strategic location has become a hub for logistics and digital services. This is the future we are actively building.
This transformation is an open invitation to the pioneers, the innovators, and the visionaries within our business community and beyond. We are fostering an ecosystem where bold ideas can flourish. This means investing strategically in the critical infrastructure of tomorrow: digital connectivity, renewable energy grids, and, most importantly, the intellectual capital of our citizens. By empowering a new generation with cutting-edge skills, we ensure that our most valuable resource is not what lies beneath our soil, but the talent and creativity of the Surinamese people.
To our local and international partners, I say this: Suriname is open for a new kind of business. We are committed to building a transparent, stable, and forward-thinking governance framework that facilitates partnership and co-creation. The opportunities emerging here are not just for investment, but for impact—a chance to be part of a nation pioneering a model of development that is both prosperous and in harmony with nature.
Let us embrace this new horizon together.
